Backhoe bucket breakout force for the 416D is 11,700 lb. and for both the 420D and 430D it''s more than 14,700 lb. Backhoe stick lift capability is 5320 lb. for the 416D, 6250 lb. for the 420D and 6610 lb. for the 430D. The optional quick coupler for the backhoe allows quick changes of work tools for additional versatility and flexibility in applications. The new backhoe loaders are available with standard cab complete with a Sears Manufacturing air suspension seat or a deluxe cab that offers additional seat features, added instrumentation and an Auto-Up mode for the stabilizers. The operator station in the D-Series machines includes white-face gauges and a new hand throttle. Heavy-duty Model TLB-535 compact tractor loader backhoe delivers 6,000-lb. digging force. "The three new machines are aimed at different sections of the backhoe loader market," said Kevin Hershberger, senior marketing engineer backhoe loaders. "The 416D is targeted to the rental services, utilities and DCA. The 420D/IT is targeted to the owner/operators and building construction markets while the 430D/IT is targeted to the owner/operators, building or construction contractors as well as the sewer and water contractors." The new loaders are similar to the C-Series in many areas and in some cases use the same components as the C-Series machines. For example, the frame and many drivetrain components are either very similar or direct carryovers from the earlier machines. "The main area of difference between the new D-Series and the old C-Series is the hydraulic system and the cab interior," said Jon Carman, commercial marketing manager for backhoe loaders.

In the compact backhoes, a much higher percentage of machines are coming from overseas suppliers. Terramite is the leading supplier in this category, and it produces its machines in West Virginia. Nebraska''s Allmand Bros. is another strong domestic supplier. Three other smaller suppliers -- Dig-It, Waldon and Ingersoll Equipment (not to be confused with Ingersoll-Rand) -- also manufacture in the US. The three top suppliers -- Terramite, Kubota and Allmand Bros. account for over 80 percent of the machines sold annually The other five companies in the market fight for the balance of what is left, although that will likely change soon in my opinion.
